The Yamazaki price in Malaysia runs from RM620–RM1,186 for Distiller's Reserve, RM950–RM1,888 for the 12 Year Old and RM3,460–RM4,399 for the 18 Year Old (October 2026). Those ranges look wide because a few shops price far above the rest. So the useful number is the cluster where most shops agree, and this guide shows you where that is.

Yamazaki price Malaysia at a glance
Here is the full table from our October 2026 check of Malaysian retailers. The "typical" column is the range at mainstream shops. Meanwhile, the "lowest seen" column is an online discounter, which may sell parallel-import stock or a different edition.
| Expression | Size | ABV | Typical price | Lowest seen* | Seen at |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Distiller's Reserve | 70cl | 43% | RM620–RM1,186 | RM543 | whisky.my, Wine Warehouse, Whiskery, Kanpai, Nomu |
| 12 Year Old | 70cl | 43% | RM950–RM1,888 | RM843 | whisky.my, Wine Warehouse, Kanpai, Nomu, Blue Ocean, Goodstuff |
| 18 Year Old | 70cl | 43% | RM3,460–RM4,399 | RM3,343 | whisky.my, Wine Warehouse, Kanpai, Nomu, Goodstuff |
Typical price is the range at mainstream Malaysian retailers for a standard 70cl or 75cl bottle, checked in October 2026. *Lowest seen is the cheapest online discounter listing. It may be a different bottle size or parallel-import stock. Prices change often, so confirm with the retailer before you buy.
Overall, Yamazaki is the priciest of the Japanese single malts you can easily buy here. For comparison, its sister malt Hakushu costs a little less at each age, while Nikka's single malts start well below RM600.
Why the Yamazaki price varies so much between shops
Most whiskies in Malaysia sit within a narrow band across shops. By contrast, the Yamazaki price in Malaysia does not. For example, Yamazaki 12 ranges from RM950 at one specialist to RM1,888 at another. That is almost double for the same 70cl bottle. Our price research points to five reasons.
- Inflated "regular" prices. Some shops show a high list price with a big "sale" cut. Wine Warehouse, for instance, lists Yamazaki 12 at RM1,788 regular and RM950 on sale. The sale price is what you actually pay.
- Small, irregular shipments. Age-stated Yamazaki arrives in small batches. As a result, several shops sell the 12 and 18 as pre-orders, and prices jump when stock runs short.
- Shop pricing strategy. A few stores simply price high. One lists Distiller's Reserve at RM1,186, while most others ask RM620–RM650.
- Old listings. Some sites keep older product pages with stale prices beside the live one. So always check which listing is in stock.
- Discounter and parallel stock. The cheapest offers come from an online discounter. One of its Yamazaki 18 listings is labelled "Japan Edition", which hints at stock bought outside the official channel.
What a typical Yamazaki price looks like
Because of those outliers, the middle of the market is a better guide than the full range. In our October 2026 check, most mainstream shops clustered here:
| Expression | Full range | Where most shops sit |
|---|---|---|
| Distiller's Reserve | RM620–RM1,186 | About RM620–RM650 |
| 12 Year Old | RM950–RM1,888 | About RM950–RM1,100 |
| 18 Year Old | RM3,460–RM4,399 | About RM3,460–RM3,500 |
So if a shop asks far above that cluster, check two or three others first. On the other hand, a price far below it deserves a closer look at the seller.
The tax part of the Yamazaki price
Tax also shapes the Yamazaki price in Malaysia, because the country adds fixed duties to every bottle. Excise is RM165 per litre of pure alcohol, and import duty is RM58 per litre of whisky. Then 10% sales tax applies on top. These amounts are the same for a cheap blend and a rare malt, so they explain the floor, not the spread. Our whisky tax guide shows the full sums.
Yamazaki history in brief
Suntory's founder, Shinjiro Torii, opened Yamazaki in 1923 at the foot of Mt Tennozan, just outside Kyoto. Suntory calls it Japan's first and oldest malt whisky distillery. Torii hired Masataka Taketsuru to run it. Taketsuru had studied in Scotland, and he later left to found Nikka.
Yamazaki malt also forms part of Hibiki and Suntory Toki. Suntory ages Yamazaki in American, Spanish and Japanese Mizunara oak, according to the House of Suntory Yamazaki page. That Mizunara oak gives the house style a hint of sandalwood and incense.
Every Yamazaki also meets the Japan Spirits & Liqueurs Makers Association labelling standard. In short, that rule means the whisky was distilled, aged for at least three years and bottled in Japan. Our Japanese whisky guide explains the standard in plain terms.

The Yamazaki range sold in Malaysia
Three Yamazaki bottles turn up in Malaysian shops, and each has its own price band in Malaysia. The tasting notes below paraphrase Suntory's official notes.
Yamazaki Distiller's Reserve
This is the no-age-statement entry bottle at 43%. It is light, fruity and gently sweet, so it suits newcomers to Japanese malt.
Strawberry, cherry and a touch of Mizunara oak.
Raspberry, white peach and a little coconut.
Sweet vanilla, clean, with a hint of cinnamon.
Yamazaki 12 Year Old
The 12 is the bottle most people mean when they ask about Yamazaki. It is fuller than the Distiller's Reserve, with more spice and oak.
Peach, pineapple, candied orange, vanilla and Mizunara oak.
Coconut, cranberry and butter.
Long, with sweet ginger and cinnamon.
Yamazaki 18 Year Old
The 18 is darker and richer, with more dried fruit and chocolate. Suntory says it won Supreme Champion Spirit at the International Spirits Challenge 2025. It costs RM3,460–RM4,399, so most buyers treat it as a gift or a special bottle.
Raisin, apricot, café au lait and Mizunara oak.
Blackberry, strawberry jam and dark chocolate.
Long, spicy and smooth.
Where to buy Yamazaki in Malaysia
Specialist online shops carry the widest Yamazaki range. These include whisky.my, Wine Warehouse, Kanpai, Nomu and Goodstuff. In our check, it showed up at specialists rather than supermarkets. So compare the Yamazaki price at two or three Malaysia shops before you pay. Our where to buy whisky guide covers each shop, delivery areas and age checks.
Travelling? Note that Malaysia's duty-free allowance on arrival is one litre of alcohol in total. Our duty-free whisky guide explains the rules.
How to drink Yamazaki
Try the 12 or 18 neat first, in a nosing glass, then add a few drops of water. Water often opens up the fruit. Meanwhile, Distiller's Reserve makes a gentle highball. Use one part whisky to three or four parts cold soda over plenty of ice. Our whisky cocktails guide has the full highball method. Above all, enjoy it slowly and responsibly.
Yamazaki price Malaysia: the bottom line
For a fair Yamazaki price in Malaysia, aim for the cluster, not the extremes. That means about RM620–RM650 for Distiller's Reserve and RM950–RM1,100 for the 12. If you want a cheaper Japanese malt, see our best Japanese whisky in Malaysia list.
Prices change with promotions, stock and exchange rates. Treat these ranges as a guide and confirm the current price with the retailer.
Frequently asked questions
How much is Yamazaki 12 in Malaysia?
The Yamazaki 12 price in Malaysia is RM950–RM1,888 in October 2026. However, most specialists sit between about RM950 and RM1,100. The RM1,888 listing is an outlier, so compare a few shops first.
Why is Yamazaki so expensive in Malaysia?
Two things push the price up. First, Malaysia charges fixed excise and import duty on every bottle. Second, aged Yamazaki reaches Malaysia in small batches, so some shops sell it on pre-order and others mark it up. See our whisky tax guide for the duty maths.
What is the cheapest Yamazaki in Malaysia?
Yamazaki Distiller's Reserve is the entry bottle. It costs RM620–RM1,186, but most shops cluster around RM620–RM650. It has no age statement, so it is younger and lighter than the 12.
Is Yamazaki Distiller's Reserve worth buying over the 12?
It depends on your budget. Distiller's Reserve is fruity and soft, and it costs about RM300 less than the 12. In contrast, the 12 is rounder and spicier, with more Mizunara oak character.
Why is the 'regular price' on some shop pages so high?
Some shops show a high 'regular' price next to a 'sale' price. For example, one shop lists Yamazaki 12 at RM1,788 regular and RM950 on sale. The sale price is the real selling price, so judge the deal on that number alone.
How can I tell if a Yamazaki bottle is fake?
Buy from an established retailer and check the Malaysian excise tax stamp with the Customs Setem Cukai app. Also be wary of a price far below the typical range. Our where to buy guide lists trusted shops.
Who makes Yamazaki whisky?
Suntory makes Yamazaki at its distillery at the foot of Mt Tennozan, near Kyoto. Suntory's founder, Shinjiro Torii, opened the distillery in 1923.
