So the Famous Grouse price in Malaysia sits below Johnnie Walker Red Label and Ballantine's Finest. For a well-known blend, that is good value.

A short history of The Famous Grouse

The story starts with Matthew Gloag & Son, a family merchant firm in Perth. In 1896, the family created a blend called The Grouse. The red grouse is a well-loved Scottish game bird, so the name had local appeal. Then, in 1905, the name became The Famous Grouse.

The brand then spent many years with Edrington. During that time, the Glenturret distillery near Crieff hosted The Famous Grouse Experience. Edrington later sold Glenturret, and the Lalique Group bought it.

A new owner in 2025

The biggest recent change came in 2025. According to William Grant & Sons, it agreed to buy The Famous Grouse in September 2024. The deal closed on 1 July 2025, after a UK competition review. So the brand now sits beside Grant's and Monkey Shoulder. The new owner calls it "Scotland's best-selling whisky".

The Famous Grouse Finest: tasting notes

Nose

Soft oak, light citrus and sweet malt.

Palate

Mellow, with dried fruit and gentle spice.

Finish

Medium, smooth and slightly sweet.

How Famous Grouse compares with other budget blends

Here is how the Famous Grouse price in Malaysia compares with its rivals at mainstream shops:

  • The Famous Grouse Finest: RM153–RM190
  • Teacher's Highland Cream: RM170
  • Johnnie Walker Red Label: RM183–RM213
  • Dewar's White Label: RM188–RM230
  • Ballantine's Finest: RM193–RM209
  • Grant's Triple Wood: RM209

So Famous Grouse is the cheapest of this group at its low end. It is softer than Teacher's, which has much more smoke. It is also less spicy than Red Label. If you want a gentle, low-cost blend, it is a sensible pick. Our list of whisky under RM200 has more bottles in this band.
